Allister Cromley's Fairweather Belle is a delightful detour from reality. Comforting and homey a great way to wind down at the end of the day. Very refreshing!
Alistair and the world that Shane has built around him are fantastical and familiar at the same time. The stories vary in tone and pace but feel like consistent parts of the same whole, it's a charming and satisfying read from page to page and I highly recommend it.
I absolutely love Allister's incredible Tales. Mr. Portman has a way of creating intricate and perfectly developed story lines, out of seemingly young and innocent plots. The love Shane puts into each word is so palpable that you begin to to feel a bond to this fine character throughout his Travels! I would recommend this Fairweather Belle to anyone who was once a child, who loves adventure, who is still young at heart, or who HAS a heart. It's a perfect story to make you go *sigh*, and have beautiful dreams of cloud animals. ENJOY!
I was disappointed. Bedtime stories were so rhythmic and imaginative, I thought that was
what I would get. This did not do it for me. I tried to imagine reading the story to a friend and
it did not happen. I like bedtime stories.

I turned the first page with the intention of reading 1 story before bedtime each evening, and that plan immediately went to pooh. I just couldn't stop! Each story is its own exquisite little gem - some are sweet and funny; others are brimming with absurdity, and some exude a deep human urge to connect with others. The one thing they all have in common is Allister, and each story reveals some new fascinating bit of his personality. Just lovely! The illustrations are an integral part of the stories as well, beautifully (and very cleverly) adding to the reader's understanding and enjoyment of the stories. I will try again to read one at a time, hopefully with more restraint this time!
I received my copies of the book today. I just cracked one open and read the prologue and first story.

I am comforted.

I have read these stories before, at least some of them, because I was blessed to be gifted a copy of a manuscript by the author many years ago. Yet, somehow they mean more today.

I read "A Pigeon." Twice. I read it twice because I had to let the life of Allister and his story sink in. I read it twice because I had to still my heart and my mind to allow that magic to happen. There's the greatest beauty and comfort.

After the second reading, I found myself choked up because there is such beauty in the truth of the story and truth in the beauty. The author is a deeply gifted man, and I am happy and humbled to call him friend.

I pray many blessings upon him and his work.
I am finally getting around to writing a review on this book! I have shared ideas of gifting this book to so many people (and have ordered another book to give a dear friend of mine who loves books already) and have written great reviews on it in my mind over and over again, but I, until now, have not had an opportunity to get online and actually write one down. Here goes

Shane Portman has opened my eyes to how black and white my eyes and ears have become. He opens my mind and allows my imagination to go on such wonderful roller coaster rides with his stories. While reading, I am finding my thoughts are colorful and my mind has opened to such a rainbow of imaginary findings that I feel like a kid again. Adult innocence for a moment, what a blessing! Wonderful read! Bravo my friend!!! I just wish there were more stories to read. Looking forward to seeing what Mr. Portman has to color the reading world with next!
