The world building is immense and I’m not sure anyone does that better than Robert Jordan did. Although I believe that Sanderson might give him a run for his money.
The characters were infuriating. This is one of the only books series I’ve read where I’ve spent 80% of the time in various states of dissatisfaction with most of the characters for some reason or another but still liked the overall story. One of my biggest pet peeves of the entire series was Rand and his Three loves (view spoiler) Min is awesome though and one of the few characters in the series I was never upset with.
There is really no way that after a journey like this you won’t have a plethora of feelings. If you are a huge fantasy reader then I think this is one of those series you have to tackle sometime in your life. There are a few slower books that ooze of worldbuilding, political maneuvering and characters but no serious plot movement and then there are the final 4 books of the series that are amazing and it feels like everything happened in.
There are things I loved in this series and things I really hated but overall I enjoyed the journey I went on. Some people survived that I didn’t think would. Some people died that I thought were safe and it was heartbreaking. But then there are those heroic moments that original cast from the Two Rivers Rand, Mat, Perrin, Egwene and Nynaeve got to have and each one shone bright at the end no matter how they were dragged into their destiny.
Still it is the end and for some of the side characters I wanted a little more info, hell for some of the main characters I wanted to know more. It isn’t perfect, there isn’t an epilogue set 5 or 10 or 20 years later and I really wanted one. I was very interested in the directions that some of the people left were going to take. But in an epic this big I guess it is impossible to tie up every last thing so I’ve filled in a few things for myself with some of the hopes and dreams I had for the remaining characters.
My hat is off to Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson for undertaking this massive fantasy series. It is an amazing journey that I might one day take again because the wheel weaves as the wheel wills and there is no beginning and there are no endings, and never will be endings, to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it was an ending.

A Memory of Light Wheel of Time Book 14 Robert Jordan Brandon Sanderson 9780765325952 Books Reviews
Let me say, it’s been a long journey. The world and story created by Robert Jordan and finished by Brandon Sanderson has been engrained into my psyche, probably forever. The histories, the places, the people, though fictional, have a very real place in my heart. Epic isn’t quite the right word, something more than epic. I’m both elated and traumatized. I can truly say I didn’t see any of it coming, which is amazing for a series riddled with omens and prophecies.
And I’ve read fight scenes and battle scenes, but never an entire book that was essentially one single battle, though one on several fronts, weaving in characters big and small from every book leading up to it. Neatly and completely wrapped up in one final package that is as complex and engrossing as one would expect from a series of this caliber.
I am immensely impressed with how well Brandon Sanderson completed the series for Robert Jordan, particularly with how he channeled Mr. Jordan’s voice and vision. It didn’t seem like another person writing it; it seemed like the same person. I am grateful.
So, yes, if you’ve read or are reading the others in this series, finish them up and read this one. If you haven’t, maybe give it a shot. If you are stuck rereading the whole thing in preparation for this one, but are losing steam, do what I did and just skip to the last one. I highly recommend this entire series for fans of epic fantasy, particularly for folks who want a series that’s not only incredible on the first read through, but utterly re-readable with something new in every reading.
This review was written for the blog at Puretextuality.com.
I was seriously wondering if they would be able to tie up these books. Well have no fear. They do so and in a spectacular way. Very happy with the ending so much so that I have read through the whole series again just to pick up some of the nuances that were in the last book. Great writing. Now that Robert Jordan didn't write it, the 10 page long descriptions of a city that you have already seen 10 times are no longer there. This is all one big culminating climax to the story. There are some happy endings and some things that make you want to cry as you see characters you hold close to your heart meet their fates one way or the other. There are twists galore many of which i did not see coming. Very few loose threads left hanging. Overall amazing book.
Until now.
I thought about trying to be very clinical and cold while writing this review, just give a few stiff comments like “ yes, it’s a very good read “ etc. but I couldn’t.
I’m a reader that GOES to where I’m reading about. I become the characters I’m reading about, hear their different voices, see their different faces. Especially if the book is this well written. Dare I say it... it seemed I could feel their emotions.
The very best of the series, this book is so well written, and the story so amazing, it’s hard to describe.
I dare you to pick it up and not love it.
The worst thing I can say about this book and really the entire series is that it’s over.
My next plan concerning my reading, is to start re-reading this entire series immediately.
First - I thank Robert Jordan posthumously for creating such a complex, intriguing world. You will be missed!
Second - I thank Brandon Sanderson for faithfully completing this incredible body of work!
Third - this is the most incredible story I have ever read. It is difficult for me to fathom the creative talent it took to give birth to such an intricate tale that combined all of the virtues and flaws of mankind with such emotion, hope, desperation and humor. The characters are so multidimensional that at the end of the last book, i feel like I'm saying goodbye to some of my best friends! the story is over but the characters will be with me for a very long time!
Well here we are and it is finally over. It has been so long and yet not long enough.
