Before I begin saying how much I enjoyed this book, has anyone else noticed this cover on another Kindle book? I think I passed this one over a few times, thinking I had it already.

Are you a fan of Jim Butcher's Dresden Files? Simon Green's Drood or Nightside books? This one is going to fit right in your bookshelves. (not sure if it is still called a bookshelf if it is on a Kindle)

Marcus Shifter is a member of a old magic family, but he went his own way after he did something when he was young and dumb. You find out what exactly that was later in the book - which was perfectly timed in being revealed. So Marcus stepped away from the magic community for awhile, but came back and is catching up with a learning curve. His family is very supportive (glad to see this happen in a good book) of his choices and his current choices are to work freelance.

It starts with a call for his services from a widow whose husband turns up un-alive. This one call to banish a zombie(?) leads to a series of events that take you through an entertaining story. No spoilers here.

Undead Chaos The Shifter Chronicles Book 1 eBook Joshua Roots Reviews

A good book! Urban fantasy theme used to its fullest. I really enjoyed it, especially the non-super hero main character who gets beaten as often as he beats others. A nice change.
This book is a well done, good read that any fan of urban fantasy should read. Not only is the story witty, fast-paced and interesting, the editing is awesome. Root obviously spent quality time in both creation and polishing. Well done! Buy it.
I truly enjoyed this tale and on completion was happy to go and buy the second book in the series. The characters drew me in and I found myself rooting for all the heroic component, especially our hero. The secondary characters are equally well-written and I enjoyed Quinn, Steve and even Forlorn and hope to meet them again in book 2.
If you like your adventure with humor and excitement then this is a book you will enjoy.
LOVE the bees!
Undead Chaos was a very fun read! After reading the title and the description I was more prepared for a Walking Dead like novel, but was pleasantly surprised. I liked Marcus and his cast of characters. The humor in this novel is just fantastic. I was on an airplane when I read the words "fat naked cheetah" and caught some odd glances as I laughed my head off. This type of genre is not my typical choice of novel, but I'm really hoping there's a second book.
It was a good read. Yes I will purchase and read the next book. Not exactly original idea since part has shades of others work but still was different enough to be enjoyed. Interesting world with 'skilled and normal' interacting. It does add a nice element to the storyline. If you read the overview (back cover for us older folks who did most of reading from paper books in the past ) ) and thought it would be interesting to read I recommend the price and time to read.
This debut urban fantasy is a light, action-packed read. Marcus Shifter is the prodigal son of a wealthy Skilled family. Despite having a father who works for the ruling Delwinn Council and a strong family legacy, Marcus works as a freelancer, and it's answering a call for a quick zombie dispatching that starts him down a twisting trail of finding, then losing, then finding a necromancer with a reputation for working dark, illegal spells. What starts as an investigation into a seemingly impossible resurrection turns into a quest to determine the truly guilty from the unjustly-accused, and uncovers a large, bloody conspiracy.

Marcus is aided by Quinn, the necromancer's lovely and powerful daughter, Forlorn Jones, a drunken oracle, Millie, a powerful maternal figure running a diner with the world's best service, and Steve the Minotaur. This book is worth it for Steve alone, but Roots weaves a fun mystery that also examines the value of loyalty and the strength to be found in family.
In the interest of full disclosure, Mr. Roots is a friend of mine from Absolute Write

To be perfectly honest, I wasn't sure I was going to read this at first. I'm not really a fan of zombies (they're overused, much like vampires), but Root's clever writing style pulled me in 100%. Marcus is a great character, fully realized and believable. I love that he relies more on his gun than his magic. I also loved how not jaded he was. Many characters like this are bitter against the world for one reason or another. Yeah they kick ass and take names, but they're also emo and it can be annoying after a while. But not Marcus.

Yeah, he's been through some crap in his life, some of it his own making, but he still has a lot to live for and be happy about. Like his loving family and his bees. I will never look at bees the same way again.

And Marcus isn't the only awesome character in this book, there's also Steve. Every line of Steve's dialogue is pure gold. Quinn is also wonderful and unique.

In short, I really enjoyed every moment I spent with this book and I'm dying to spend more time with these characters in their world.

Well thanks for reading! I hope I've given you an idea for something fun to read this week.
