I have read every book in this series and can say this was absolutely the best one. Although all are fun and entertaining, Goldy`s character was often a ditzy blonde, walking into obvious traps and eluding the officers her cop husband assigned to protect her. In this mystery she is smart and cautious, and the few times she puts herself in harm's way are not her fault. It is a pleasure watching her work, along with her millionaire besty Marla, her heart throb husband Tom, and her typical teen son Arch ("Mommmmm!). There are lots of plot twists and turns, and the relationships between the main characters are warm and fun, with realistic conversations. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys non-gory, light hearted mysteries where the good guys are likeable and the bad guys are jerks . A fun read!

The Whole Enchilada A Novel of Suspense Goldy Schulz Diane Mott Davidson 9780061348174 Books Reviews

I have read all the books in this series and I will stop with this one. I couldn't even finish it, unfortunately. The writing and the storyline seemed very formulaic. Goldie, in particular, talks more like an elderly person than the forty-ish (?) person she is supposed to be, but the dialog seemed really stilted, and the characters very stiff. I've always enjoyed this series as a fun, light read but cannot reccommend this volume in the series. Maybe it's time for the author to move on.
Goldy has been a favorite of mine since she first appeared in book world. There have been times when her description of activities in her Episcopal church have had me laughing out loud. While that was not true in this book--the wily Episcopalians were tamer this time than at some others, in addition to which Father Pete is almost killed by the perp who committed the first murder--church activities still played a major role in the mystery.

While it is unusual for murder mysteries to begin with the death of a close friend, The Whole Enchilada does just that. The rest of the book is about Goldy's and her friend Marla's determination to find out what caused their friend's death and who could have and would have done it. Tom, Goldy's police officer husband, as always torn by his knowledge that Goldy will investigate the murder no matter what and his desire to keep her safe, plays his usual strong but gentle role in the investigation.

The book is not great literature; it is what it is supposed to be--a story about people most readers already know and appreciate. I recommend it to readers who want to read a light mystery that has a most satisfactory end.
Very disappointing. I have grown to dislike Goldy intensely. She is so self centered and narcissisistic. The way she treats her husband is sickening and her son is a spoiled little creep. The way she treated the other cops like they were her servants was grating. Her know it all attitude and her making everything about herself has gotten old. Marla sounds like a shrew. The authors lack of knowlege about the Catholic Church shines through as well. Divorced women CAN go to communion, as long as they haven't gotten married again outside of the church ( and have remained in a state of grace). There was so much repetition I found myself skipping through the book. The only likable characters are Tom and Boyd. The stupidity of Goldy is also grating. She makes herself a target, consistently ignores her husbands advice and gets hurt, then gets angry at him when he calls her out. It's amazing he gets anything done with her around! SPOILER ALERT Hopefully she doesn't bring up the new baby to be a spoiled, disrespectful brat like Archie, I so do NOT recommend this book sad to say. I hope the series is done.
I have enjoyed these books and characters for many years now. Although some of the recipes are above my pay grade, the cookies are truly yummy. In this book our hapless caterer gets injured in many ways, but still manages to solve the puzzle of who and why Holly Ingelby died. Per usual there is a lot of coffee moments, Julian helping out with the cooking, and Marla being Marla. I read this series because Goldy is much like Angela Lansbury in Murder She Wrote in that she is a fairly normal person who seems surrounded by murder. Although no caterer would ever be so involved in all this drama, Davidson reminds us that many "servant" type jobs hear so much more than people assume. If you are looking for a light, fun read with a real character, the Goldilock's catering service books could fill many hours for you.
I have read all 17 books in this series. I recommend them! Read them in order. The characters are vivid and memorable. Each book is very enjoyable. This book is the only one with a bit of repetition, as Goldy, the main character, goes over the facts and tries to solve the murder. But I still recommend reading it. I'm sorry to say goodbye to Goldy and her friends and family. They have been wonderful fictional companions for many years.
I was happy to find a new book in the series that I hadn't read and this one didn't disappoint. I was worried when the recipes didn't appear throughout the story after they were mentioned but relieved to find them at the end of the book. If you're a stickler for absolute realism you'll probably find the stuff the police department let's Goldy get away with annoying, but if that's the case, you're reading the wrong series to begin with!

My only caveat is that I would like to see Goldy not end up getting hurt so often. Maybe she could take a few self- defense courses which wouldn't help in all situations but she rarely seems to fight back. Unlike Marla who really stepped up - it was great to see her go into action!
I have read every book in this series and can say this was absolutely the best one.
